Arrival Time to Bangkok

Please arrive in Bangkok in time for the dinner on 24 April. The boats depart from the Shangri-La Hotel at 18.30 hrs.

Flights into Bangkok

Most flights from Europe arrive in Bangkok in the morning hours including direct flights from Oslo by Thai Airways International and Norwegian. Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and Swiss International Airlines, all operating daily, have flights that arrive in the afternoon. Return flights by these airlines as well as direct flights to Norway by Thai Airways International depart late at night and arrive in Europe early next morning. Norwegian’s flights as well as those of all other European airlines depart from Bangkok in the morning hours and arrive in Europe in the afternoon. Flights from Asian destinations arrive and depart at all times of the day. You will most likely arrive at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi (pronounced Suwanna-poom) International Airport located 30 kms. east of the city.

A few budget carriers like Air Asia and Nok Air operate from the old Don Mueang Airport located 20 kms. north of the city.

Immigration and Customs

Make sure you have filled in the Thai Immigration forms before landing. Queues at the arrival immigration counters in Bangkok can sometimes be a lengthy process, especially during peak hours. If you are not holding a Norwegian passport, please check with your local Thai embassy if you require a visa to enter Thailand. After passing through immigration, you proceed to the baggage carousels for pick-up of your luggage.

Limousines to the Hotel

Shangri-La Hotel offers hotel limousines (booked together with the hotel accommodation) as follows:

  • Mercedes Benz S-Class Baht 2,900
  • Executive Van Baht 3,500

For hotel limousine services requested during the hours of 23.30 to 05.30, there will be an additional charge of Baht 200 for a Mercedes Benz S-Class and Baht 400 for an Executive Van.

The trip to Shangri-La hotel in Bangkok will take approximately one hour from either airport.

If you have not ordered a limousine in advance, it’s a good idea to buy a limousine voucher from the AOT (Airport of Thailand)’s limousine counter. They have regular insured cars available. Avoid regular taxis; queues can be long and taxi insurance coverage is limited.

Airport Express Train to/from the City Centre

From Suvarnabhumi Airport it is possible to take the Airport Link to the Bangkok City Centre. However, in order to get to the Shangri-La Hotel via the Airport Link, you will first need to change to BTS Skytrain at Phaya Thai (N2) station and then again between two BTS Skytrain lines at Siam (Cen) station in order to get to Sapan Taksin (S6) station close to Shangri-La Hotel. With luggage that is not a journey to be recommended.

Departing from Bangkok

For the trip back to the airport, we suggest that you leave the hotel no later than three and a half hours ahead of your flight departure. If you leave Bangkok in the evening, be aware of flight times after midnight with check-in taking place the day before the departure date. Many travellers have missed their flights as a consequence of forgetting that the date changes at midnight.
