The Award Ceremony

Erik Borgen, Chairman of Norwegian Business Association Singapore (NBAS) led the award ceremony at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok on 25 April 2014 in connection with the Norway-Asia Business Summit 2014. Mr. Borgen was assisted by Norwegian Deputy Minister of Trade, Fisheries and Industry, Ms. Dilek Ayhan and Ms. Kristin Skogen Lund, Director General of Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO).

The Award goes to Telenor India

Telenor India was announced as the winner of the coveted Norway-Asia Business Award for 2014. Telenor India is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Telenor ASA, and has been present in India since 2009. The jury stated that: “We think Telenor India has performed a most impressive and remarkable story in the relatively short time they have been operating in India. They are probably the most successful new entrant to the Indian Mobile Industry operating in six of the most important telecom circles in the country and serves today more than 32 mill subscribers, has 3.5 mill retail outlets, 1800 distributors and over 8000 employees. In addition, they show great innovation in launching their new products to the market, showing an innovative approach to marketing combined with rapid geographic expansion. Its early days yet and the final economic success is still to be proven, however the company has achieved break-even results cash flow wise in all its operation circles last year. We find this to be quite impressive.”

First runner up: Wikborg, Rein & Co. Shanghai

Wikborg, Rein & Co. Shanghai was announced as the first runner up for the Norway-Asia Business Award for 2014. Wikborg, Rein Shanghai is part of the Wikborg & Rein law firm in Norway, probably Norway’s most international law firm, and they have been in Shanghai since 2002. The jury stated that: “We are impressed by the success Wikborg & Rein has had in China, not only with increasing its turnover by almost six times during the last six years, but apart from being important lawyers to the Norwegian community also today having more than 40% of its turnover coming from Chinese clients. Its local and international merits are acknowledged by a great number of prestigious legal directories and rankings. They have been listed as one of Asia’s ten fastest growing law firms, their former head was ranked amongst the 100 most influential lawyers in Asia as well as the firm being ranked The best maritime law firm in Asia. It is also expanding in China with a new office in Beijing.”

Second Runner Up: Kongsberg Maritime Pte. Ltd.

Kongsberg Maritime Pte. Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kongsberg Group established in Norway in 1814. In Singapore they have their regional headquarters for Asia. The jury stated that: “We think that Kongsberg Maritime has done an outstanding job in solidifying the Singapore operations success and position within Kongsberg Maritime’s global activities with a massive revenue growth in the last few years and showing leadership in innovation earning the recognition as a global leader in advanced high-tech solutions and applications within the offshore, merchant marine and subsea segments of the maritime industry.”
