H.E. Dilek Ayhan, Norway’s Deputy Minister of Trade, Fisheries and Industry cautioned Norwegian companies wishing to invest in Myanmar. She stated that a good knowledge base on the actual situation in Myanmar was needed and in addition resources were necessary in order to handle expected and unexpected challenges and also to execute respect fundamental human rights in all activities, actively work against corruption and safeguard the environment.
The purpose of the Deputy Minister’s visit was to build on the good relations that already are established between Myanmar and Norway. She expressed satisfaction that so much of the aid provided by Norway to Myanmar goes to capacity building and technical assistance that will make Myanmar more self-supporting in the future.
She ended by stating that “a dynamic private sector is crucial for Myanmar in order to achieve long-term, sustainable poverty reduction through productive jobs.” “Trade and foreign investment will strengthen local capacity and promote local competition. Better living standards will contribute to further democratisation.”, she said.
