Kids Action for Kids

Kids Action for Kids Kids Action for Kids is a Norwegian organisation working to help less fortunate kids in Thailand and now also in Myanmar. The work is initiated and run mainly by kids and youth, with the believe that they, too, can make a difference in society. Kids Action for Kids work closely with Operation Smile.

In Thailand, one out of every 500 babies are born with facial deformities, cleft lips or cleft palates. Children born with these deformities experience many problems; physically, emotionally and developmentally. Most of the children are not able to eat or speak properly and they are often stigmatised and left out in the communities adding great emotional pain. Kids Action for Kids focus their efforts on addressing this issue. The main focus since 2009 has been to raise money to finance surgery for kids with facial deformities. So far (by January 2014), 420 kids have received this life changing surgery.

Norway’s Engagement with Myanmar

Norway has been involved through active engagement with the authorities in Myanmar since 2008. Norway was the first western country to lift trade sanctions and also one of the first western countries to open a fully-fledged embassy in the country. Norwegian businesses are actively pursuing business opportunities in Myanmar; Telenor was one of two winners of the recently awarded mobile telecom licences and will stay in Myanmar for the long run.

Kids Action for Kids in Myanmar

As part of the Norwegian initiative in Myanmar, Kids Action for Kids are working to raise money to finance surgery for kids with facial deformities in Myanmar. This is done in tandem with Norwegian businesses in Myanmar and relevant authorities both in Norway and Myanmar.
