Børge Brende is the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, representing the Conservative Party. He has previously been Minister of Environment (2001-2004) and Minister of Trade and Industry (2004-2005). He has been a member of Stortinget (The Norwegian Parliament) from 1997–2009, for Sør-Trøndelag County. He holds an undergraduate degree (BA) in Economics, Law and History.

Besides Norwegian politics, Brende has held positions as Chairman of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (2003-2004), and Managing Director for the World Economic Forum in Geneva, in 2008-2009 and 2011–2013. From 2009 to 2011 Brende acted as Secretary General in the Norwegian Red Cross.

Between 2005 and 2013 Brende was a member of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (advisory body to the Chinese Government). Between 2012 and 2013 Brende was also a member of the Board of Directors at Statoil.
